Stanley Kramer
Stanley Kramer was a filmmaker and producer whose passion for exploring complex social issues made him one of the most important figures in American cinema. Born in New York in 1913, Kramer moved to Hollywood in 1933 where he took on odd jobs in the film industry. He became an independent film producer in the 1940s and then got a job producing films for Columbia Pictures. By the 1950s, Kramer began directing his famous "message films", tackling socially relevant issues: racism in The Defiant Ones (1958), nuclear war in On the Beach (1959), evolution in Inherit the Wind (1960), and fascism in Judgment at Nuremberg (1961). His dedication to tackling controversial subjects earned him critical acclaim and numerous awards throughout his career. A number of Kramer's films have been made available to stream online for free and we've collected them here.
