Stanley Donen
Stanley Donen was a luminary of Hollywood's Golden Age, renowned for his contributions to the art of musical comedy. Born in 1924 in South Carolina, Donen moved to New York as a young man to study drama and dance. He quickly found work on Broadway, and soon made his way to Hollywood, where he began to make his mark as a choreographer and a director. With a string of hits including On the Town (1949), Singin' in the Rain (1952), and Funny Face (1957), Donen helped define the genre of musical comedy in the 1950s and 60s. He also made some films outside the musical genre later in his career, including Charade (1963), a fun movie starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn that is available for free online. Today, Donen is widely regarded as one of the top filmmakers of his generation, and thankfully a number of his films are available to stream online for free and enjoy.
