Spike Lee
Spike Lee is a cinematic provocateur whose films are marked by an unflinching commitment to exploring race relations and social & political issues. Born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1957, he grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where he was exposed to the vibrancy and diversity of urban life. Lee studied film at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he developed his signature style of blending realism and stylization. Lee burst onto the scene with his 1986 directorial feature debut, She's Gotta Have It (1986). A few years later he would make his most critically acclaimed film Do the Right Thing (1989), which tackled issues of racial tension and police brutality in a Brooklyn neighborhood on a hot summer day. Since then, he has continued to push boundaries over the past decades with films such as Malcolm X (1992), 25th Hour (2002), and BlacKkKlansman (2018). Writing & directing over 20 films, Lee's impact on American cinema and culture is undeniable. Not many of his films are offered for free online, but when they are we'll feature them here.
