Peter Bogdanovich
Peter Bogdanovich was one of the most revered filmmakers of the New Hollywood, known for his deep appreciation of classic Hollywood cinema. He was born in Kingston, New York in 1939 and began his career as a film critic before transitioning into filmmaking in the 1960s. After directing a film produced by Roger Corman in the thriller Targets (1968), Bogdanovich directed his breakthrough movie The Last Picture Show (1971), which was nominated for eight Academy Awards. He followed that up with two acclaimed classics What's Up, Doc? (1972) and Paper Moon (1973). While he never again reached the success of some of these early films, Bogdanovich continued to direct interesting movies for the next three decades. A true cinephile, Bogdanovich also wrote a number of film history books featuring interviews with great directors and actors. His deep love of cinema that he incorporated into his movies has made him a beloved figure among film fans. A number of his films are available to watch online for free, and we have featured them here.
