Otto Preminger
Otto Preminger was a significant film director in the Golden Age of Hollywood, directing more than 35 feature films from the 1930s to the 1970s. Born in Austria in 1905, he began his career as a stage actor before turning to film. In 1935 he made his way to Hollywood where he directed a number of movies before gaining attention for his film noirs Laura (1944) and Fallen Angel (1945). Throughout the 1950s and 60s, Preminger tackled controversial subjects with unflinching honesty, exploring drug addiction in The Man with the Golden Arm (1955), rape in Anatomy of a Murder (1959), and homosexuality in Advise and Consent (1962). Despite his sometimes combative personality, Preminger remained a highly respected figure in Hollywood until his death in 1986. Many of his films from his prolific career are available to watch for free online and we've featured them here.
