Michelangelo Antonioni
Michelangelo Antonioni is one of the greatest directors in the history of cinema. Born in Ferrara, Italy in 1912, Antonioni turned his attention to filmmaking in the 1940s and 50s, telling stories about social alienation in post-war Italy. In the 1960s, Antonioni made a series of groundbreaking films that explored the existential crises and emotional disconnections of modern life. His "trilogy on modernity and its discontents" included the cinematic masterpieces L'Avventura (1960), La Notte (1961), and L'Eclisse (1962). He ventured out of Italy to direct the classic mystery Blow-up (1966), covering a fashion photographer in 1960s Swinging London, and then he went to California to direct the counterculture cult film Zabriskie Point (1970). Antonioni's films were known for their cool, detached aesthetic, their stunning use of color and composition, and their powerful evocation of isolation in contemporary society. His influence on the world of cinema cannot be overstated, and his films demand to be seen. Here we've collected some of his films which are available to watch for free online.
