Joseph L. Mankiewicz
Joseph L. Mankiewicz was a master of the silver screen, known for his sharp wit and skillful storytelling. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in 1909, Mankiewicz made his way to Hollywood in 1929, working on scripts for Paramount Pictures and MGM for over a decade before he finally got a chance to direct in the 1940s with 20th Century Fox. His most celebrated film is probably All About Eve (1950), a scathing satire of the entertainment industry, that won six Academy Awards. Throughout his career, Mankiewicz worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, Humphrey Bogart, and Bette Davis.
