John Woo
John Woo is a Hong Kong film director who rose to international fame in the 1980s and 1990s, known for his stylized action movies. Born in Guangzhou, China in 1946, Woo grew up in Hong Kong and started his film career as an assistant director at the Shaw Brothers studio in the 1960s. He got his start as a director working on numerous martial arts movies in the 1970s. In the 1980s and into the 90s, Woo directed some of the top Hong Kong action movies with classics of the genre like A Better Tomorrow (1986), The Killer (1989), and Hard Boiled (1992). With this impressive resume, Woo came to Hollywood and directed a number of amazing action films like Hard Target (1993) and Face/Off (1997). In the 2000s, Woo returned to China and directed many more impressive motion pictures.
