John Sayles
John Sayles is a prolific American filmmaker who has been a key figure in the independent film industry since the 1980s. Born in Schenectady, New York in 1950, Sayles got his start in the film industry as a screenwriter and used his earnings to fund his first film, Return of the Secaucus 7 (1980). After his directorial debut, Sayles went on to write and direct a string of critically acclaimed films, including The Brother from Another Planet (1984), Passion Fish (1992), and Lone Star (1996). He continued to make independent films into the 2000s, creating works that are compelling and socially conscious.
