J. Lee Thompson
J. Lee Thompson was a prolific British filmmaker whose career spanned several decades and genres. Born in Bristol in 1914, Thompson served in World War II before getting a job as a screenwriter and eventually a director. He is perhaps best known for his work in the thriller and action genres, with films like The Guns of Navarone (1961) and Cape Fear (1962). He worked as a director relentlessly from the 1950s through the 1980s, making over 40 films. His films were known for their powerful performances, often featuring iconic stars such as Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum, and Charles Bronson.
