Isaac Hayes plays L.A. bounty hunter Mack "Truck" Turner. Hayes is the lead actor and he also did the music for this classic blaxploitation flick. After establishing Truck as a badass bounty hunter with a wisecracking partner, he is given an assignment to bring in a tough pimp named Gator. After a lot of chasing, Truck ends up killing Gator. The movie really picks up at the pimp's funeral, where a group of prostitutes led by Dorinda (Nichelle Nichols) is now on the market with offers from a bunch of new pimps. Yaphet Kotto plays the smooth pimp Harvard Blue, and he turns the acting up a notch as he aggressively pursues Truck who is now being hunted wherever he goes. It all builds to a thrilling and bloody conclusion. Isaac Hayes is suitable in the lead, but the scenes with Nichelle Nichols and Yaphet Kotto are some of the highlights. And of course the music is outstanding. The film is directed by Jonathan Kaplan, who adds some innovative camerawork. Kaplan would go on to direct Over the Edge (1979), The Accused (1988), and Unlawful Entry (1992), among other films.
