The Stepfather is a 1987 psychological horror film directed by Joseph Ruben. The story follows Jerry Blake, played by Terry O'Quinn, a man with a dark past who constantly changes identities in search of the perfect family. When his idealized vision of family life isn't met, he resorts to murder and moves on to find his next unsuspecting family. In this film, he marries a widow (Shelley Hack) with a teenage daughter (Jill Schoelen). As the daughter becomes suspicious of her new stepfather's behavior, tension escalates, leading to a chilling climax. The movie received mostly good reviews and was followed by two sequels.
