The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a 2009 Swedish mystery thriller directed by Niels Arden Oplev. Based on the first novel in the Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson, the movie features an unlikely partnership between disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist, played by Michael Nyqvist, and Lisbeth Salander, a brilliant but deeply troubled hacker, played by Noomi Rapace. Together, they delve into a decades-old case involving the disappearance of Harriet Vanger, a member of one of Sweden's wealthiest families. As they uncover a disturbing conspiracy, they also form a complex bond. The film was well received and was followed by two sequels also featuring Rapace's powerful performance as Salander. The story was later adapted into a Hollywood film in 2011 by director David Fincher.
