Movie Description
Ringu is a 1998 Japanese horror film directed by Hideo Nakata. Based on the novel by Koji Suzuki, the film follows a journalist, Reiko Asakawa (Nanako Matsushima), who investigates a cursed videotape that reportedly kills anyone who watches it seven days later. After viewing the tape herself, Reiko, along with her ex-husband Ryuji Takayama (Hiroyuki Sanada), must unravel the mystery of the tape to save their lives. Ringu helped to popularize the J-Horror genre internationally. Its success led to an American remake, The Ring, in 2002.
