Movie Description
Insomnia is a 1997 Norwegian psychological thriller film directed by Erik Skjoldbjaerg. The story follows Detective Jonas Engstrom (Stellan Skarsgard), who is sent to the small town of Tromso in northern Norway to investigate the murder of a young girl. However, due to Tromso's location in the Arctic Circle, Engstrom is plagued by the midnight sun, a phenomenon in which the sun doesn't set, leading to severe insomnia. As his sleep deprivation worsens, he makes a fatal mistake during the investigation and subsequently falls into a maelstrom of guilt. Insomnia was later remade by director Christopher Nolan in 2002, starring Al Pacino and Robin Williams.
