Having seen every Cronenberg film from Shivers (1975) to the present, this is probably Cronenberg's weakest film. The dialogue is so postmodern and detached that it's hard to care about any of the characters, and almost the entire film is dialogue. Robert Pattinson as Eric Packer rides in a limo for most of the film, engaging in various vapid conversations with other rich companions. It's like American Psycho (2000) without any of the satire or dark humor or horror. While Robert Pattinson has shown his talents for picking good roles since the woeful Twilight Saga, he hasn't been a great leading man. Other actors come and go in Cosmopolis without leaving much of a dramatic mark including Paul Giamatti, Samantha Morton, Mathieu Amalric, and Juliette Binoche. It's a cold exercise that feels like a stage play with hardly any cinematic flare. Maybe author Don DeLillo is better left on the page than on the silver screen. Strictly for the Cronenberg completist!
