Breathless is a 1983 neo-noir romantic film directed by Jim McBride. It is a remake of the 1960 French New Wave classic Breathless by Jean-Luc Godard. The film stars Richard Gere as Jesse Lujack, a reckless, charismatic thief who becomes involved in the murder of a police officer. On the run from the law, Jesse tries to convince a beautiful French student, Monica Poiccard (Valerie Kaprisky), to flee to Mexico with him. Set against the backdrop of sun-soaked Los Angeles, the film features a rockabilly soundtrack headlined by Jerry Lee Lewis' "Breathless." Quentin Tarantino is a diehard fan of the movie.
