Angel is back! In this sequel to Angel (1984), the role of former prostitute Molly Stewart AKA Angel is played by Betsy Russell. We learn that four years have passed and Molly is now in college where she runs track and field and is studying to become a lawyer. The detective who helped get her off the streets is murdered in an extended opening sequence featuring the hit song "Why?" by the Bronski Beat. After Molly learns of the murder, she returns to Hollywood Boulevard to avenge his death. There she quickly meets up with her old friends Yo-Yo Charlie (Steven M. Porter), Solly Mosler (Susan Tyrrell), and a new trickster named Johnny Glitter (Barry Pearl) who looks like a homeless Adam Ant and throws glitter everywhere he goes. The tone of the movie shifts wildly with wacky music as Johnny, Solly, and Molly hatch a plan to get their buddy cowboy Kit Carson (Rory Calhoun) out of the sanitarium. Compared to the first movie, the rapid tone shifts in this sequel are crazy and the plot is a total mess. We learn that the murders are happening because a land developer is plotting to gentrify Hollywood Boulevard, but the freaks of the street are determined to keep it weird and sleazy. Solly also has a little baby boy she adopted and the baby eventually gets kidnapped. The movie ends with a hilarious and violent climax in the famous Bradbury Building in downtown LA. This sequel is wackier than the first movie, but you might get a kick out of it.
