Movie Description
A Royal Affair is a 2012 Danish historical drama film directed by Nikolaj Arcel. The film is set in the 18th century, at the home of the crazed King Christian VII of Denmark, and focuses on the romance between the queen, Caroline Matilda (Alicia Vikander), and the royal physician Johann Friedrich Struensee (Mads Mikkelsen). This forbidden love affair ultimately leads to a political coup and the implementation of Enlightenment ideals in Denmark. The film received much acclaim and was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Academy Awards.
